ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten:
ReplyDelete1. This year, I learned that research papers should be strictly facts from reliable sources. I used to want to insert any prior knowledge that I had, but now I have learned not to do that!
2. I have also learned how important it is to connect with what you are reading, as you are reading. Sometimes, in previous school years, I would find myself not comprehending what I was reading; that is because I never stopped to connect the book to other things in life. Mainly, connections help to burn the subject you're reading about into your memory.
3. I have learned some really awesome test taking skills, trough practice tests and Coach. I always get stressed out about timed tests because I like to take my time, but my skills have definitely improved since last year.
4. I have also learned the importance of expanding my vocabulary! Even though I don't always use the words that we learn from our ACT book, it's cool because when more intelligent people use them, I know what they are talking about!
5. We are currently learning how to use new technology (this blog), which will be imperative for our future because we will all need to be technologically inclined. I have learned a lot of new things in this area!
6. During our tolerance unit, I have learned many important things. I have learned that even the smallest discrimination toward anyone can lead to genocide and mass killings. I never really think about these types of things, but since the lesson started, I've been trying hard to watch what I say, and think because I could be the start of a major problem if I don't.
7. I have learned how to create a Works Cited page on an MLA format research paper, which I had never even seen before. I still think it's strange that the indenting is just reversed from the norm.
8. I have also learned how to write a really strong four paragraph essay, (FCAT style). Throughout the year, we have done many practice prompts, and I did not get very good scores, (usually not passing), but now I am very thrilled that I received a 5 on my writing FCAT! :)
9. I have learned how to quote sources if the excerpt contains forty words or more in an MLA format research paper. I never knew that there was a specific rule for extended quotes, but now that I am aware of it, I have most likely broken that rule in the past!
10. Ultimately, I have learned to be a very responsible student. I sometimes like to slack, but your class has kept me on my toes and taught me to stay on task!
